Identity played host to the Detroit Bloggers meetup last night with speaker Hajj Flemings, who talked about personal branding and blogging. Hajj is a personal brand strategist, speaker, author, CEO and founder of Brand Camp University and CEO and Co-Founder of Gokit.

If you know anything about Hajj or have ever heard him speak, you know the man ain’t fakin’ it when it comes to personal branding. He knows his stuff!

South By Southwest Interactive (SXSWi) is one of those events I’ve been hearing about for years and wondering when I would get my chance to experience it firsthand. Luckily, opportunity came knocking this year.

The Chevrolet team asked me to participate in its second annual SXSWi road trip challenge, and I humbly accepted. I couldn’t have asked for a better team (we choose the name Team Motown to properly represent our Detroit heritage). While the road trip was exhausting, spending three days creating content on the fly was a challenging and rewarding experience. I had so much fun!

I attended the Brand Camp University conference last Friday and snagged a few of the speakers to share what they felt was the most important personal branding takeaway from their presentation.

The third annual Brand Camp: Personal Branding 2.0 Conference is taking place in metro Detroit on Friday, October 8. This year’s theme is Awaking Your Inner ‘Preneur.

To varying degrees, folks around the office have been talking a lot about “personal branding” these days. As the expression suggests, this is the business—and the art—of branding the individual, as opposed to (or in addition to) branding a company. A company may have a brand, but so too does/should the CEO of that company. [...]
